Saturday on the road

Safely home and now unpacking.

We drove home from Bethany in record time. We arrived back in Chevy Chase by 2:00p with enough time for Rich, Jud, Jack and J.C. to take a tour of Washington.

Dani chilled with Rocco

Evening in the garden.

Friday is our last day in Bethany

We all agree that the week was too short. We want to stay for two weeks.

J.C. is almost finished with his book.

John is also busy reading.
Lori and Ian enjoy the cool ocean

Alex is ready to go back in the water.

Leigh and Sara exchange tales of our adventurous generation three children.

Dani and Claire!
Stephen and Kathleen are in charge of dinner. Carolyn cuts up 200 cherry tomatoes. Mallory mashes the cheese.

It is the best dinner of the week.
Dosie, Leigh and Sue are the cleanup crew.
Evening walk through BethanyJack is ready for his first shave and asks J.C. for advice.
Rich advises on technique.
Everyone admires Jack's masterful job. Jack is now officially ready for 9th grade!

Thursday at the Beach

Outlet Malls in the morning. $20 for Kenneth Cole fake diamond flip flops. We couldn't resist.

The ocean was calm and Alex stayed in the water all day.

Bob and Sara in the sun.
The Sutherland Sisters relax in the shade. Forget reading books. We just sat and stared at the people walking by.
We know how fortunate we all are to be able to spend this time together every year. Dinners are the time that everyone shares their opinions and stories. Rich has a new appreciative audience for his jokes. Generation three has a year's worth of events and many future plans to catch us up on. Stephen and Kathleen are filling Rich in on Virginia Tech plans.

Lori, Ian, Bob and Vicki

Sara made her famous salmon.
Alex ate three salmon filets and rice!!!
Everyone was exhausted.

Tuesday at the Beach

Everybody has to carry something down to the beach. We have to mark our spot on the beach at 7:30a.
The beach fills up very quickly and we take up a lot of room.

Alex needs to move to Bethany.

Dani made the salad. Fresh avocado!!!!

Monday - We are getting settled!

It's all about shade!!! What happened to Sarah's tent? It is a mystery. Sue and Rich went to KMart to buy a new one.

Rich, Jud, Jack and J.C. set up the new tent.

The new tent is not working.
But that's ok. We are on vacation.

We spent most of the day at the beach. Alex likes to go out in the waves. That's a two-person job. Jack helped Rich with Alex.

Everybody has a favorite book. Jud and Dosie are both reading "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

Stephen is the grill master. Tonight he grilled marinated chicken and filets. Tarragon butter for the steaks, salad and fresh corn. There were no leftovers!

This is Erin and Mallory's last night in Bethany. Erin has to leave to start field hockey practice back in Charlottesville. Next year, Erin promises to make her specialty - macaroni and cheese! Don't forget Erin!!!!
J.C. likes to be the first to eat.
Bob and Sue have to sit on the couches. Not enough room at the table! They are not complaining and enjoying a peaceful moment.

Sunset on the boardwalk.

Sunday in Bethany

116 5th Street
We have stayed in this house for one week every summer for 6 years. We have been coming to Bethany Beach for twenty years. It feels like home to us. There are ten of us staying here - Dosie, and her two children - J.C. and Dani; Sue and her son, Jack; and Leigh and Rich with Alex and Jud - Phillip is traveling this year. And don't forget Sandy! Sandy is our friend and Alex's caregiver. Joining us in a house nearby is our cousin, Sara and her family - The O'Connors - husband Bob - children - Lori, Stephen, Erin, Carolyn and their assorted friends. Watch out Bethany Beach!

We take up a very big space on the beach.

Alex is on the beach all day.

We spend the whole day planning and discussing dinner. Everyone has an opinion. Dinner is usually 20 people or more.

Mother - Daughter hug.
Lori made the brownies.
Rich said that the food was 'surpringly good'. Whew!!!
Dosie, Leigh and Sue are having fun.
